See Hunter Education Requirements for details. Limited Licenses The deadline for applying for big game limited hunting licenses is APRIL 1, 2008. Results of each year's drawings will be on the Limited License/Preference Points page. Although the deadline is over, there is still a chance to obtain licenses. There are deer and elk licenses left over. See the Leftover List. You may also buy over the counter licenses. The Regulations Brochure can be viewed online and printed. Nonresidents apply at the same time and on the same application forms as resident hunters. They may purchase an over-the-counter license just the same as resident hunters. Residents, if you applied for a limited license last year, should have received this years brochure in the mail. If you did not hunt last year, misplaced your brochure or would like another copy, pick them up at DOW offices and license agents throughout the state. How To Obtain Over-The-Counter Licenses: Over-the-Counter licenses may be purchased until midnight prior to the opening of the particular hunting season that license is good for. Once a season begins, the only place a license may be purchased is at a Division of Wildlife office. (The exception is over-the-counter archery licenses, which may be purchased any time during the season). Licenses purchased by Internet & phone: All hunting and fishing licenses (except for leftover limited big game licenses) are now available by Internet and phone. This includes annual and short-term fishing and small game licenses. Purchase online at Applications & Licenses or call the toll free TELEPHONE SALES number, 1 (800) 244-5613. Things to Remember If you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1949, you must have a hunter education card or certificate before applying or buying a license in Colorado.
If you hunted or fished in Colorado since 1994, you were issued a green conservation certificate (CC). To apply in 2003, you will need the number in the upper right corner of your CC. If you have lost your CC, give us a call at (303) 297-1192. We will reprint and mail it to you. PLEASE DO NOT OBTAIN A NEW CERTIFICATE AT A LICENSE AGENT. If you are applying for or buying licenses in Colorado for the first time, a CC will be issued to you automatically. Big Game season dates, license fees and application deadlines have been finalized for the next 5-year season structure. Each year the Colorado Wildlife Commission meets in January to make final decisions on possible new regulation changes pertaining to hunting. Hunters need to be aware that new regulations may apply each year. Be sure to check the big game season information brochure for more specific information.
